About Badger
Badgers are stocky, powerfully built members of the weasel family, and the only living species in their genus — burrowers through and through, found across open grassland, prairie, and shrub-steppe of central and western North America. A white stripe running from the nose over the top of the head is the clearest field mark, but the real giveaway is speed: a threatened badger can disappear straight into the ground in a matter of seconds. Mostly nocturnal and solitary, they feed heavily on ground squirrels, pocket gophers, and other burrowing rodents, dug out directly from the source.
