North American Porcupine

North American porcupines are slow-moving, quill-covered rodents found in forested and rocky terrain across much of the continent. Tens of thousands of loosely attached, barbed quills make for formidable defense — they detach easily and embed in anything that makes contact, though contrary to popular belief, a porcupine can't actually throw them. Largely herbivorous, porcupines feed on bark, twigs, and foliage, and despite a reputation for clumsiness, they're capable tree climbers, just slow and methodical about it.
