About Corsican Sheep
Corsican sheep come out of the mouflon — the wild sheep of Sardinia and Corsica, released on Texas ranches from the late 1930s — crossed onto Barbados and other domestic breeds, so there's no wild population and no native range behind them. Ewes run two-thirds to three-quarters the size of rams, and because selective breeding has produced sheep with or without wool, with or without horns, even without external ears, in every color from milk-white through dark brown to black, the cross can wear any of it. They're herd animals to the bone, moving as a group and badly stressed when cut off from it, feeding mainly on grass, with ewes coming into season in early fall and dropping one or two lambs in mid-spring.
