15,093 acres in southern Calhoun County with Powderhorn Lake and Matagorda Bay forming the north and east boundaries. Grazing and fire suppression had let live oak run over the coastal prairie; herbicide and burning since 2015 have taken about half the area back to native grass.
These are drawn hunts. You must apply in advance and be selected — you cannot simply turn up. Being drawn is not guaranteed, and a permit for one hunt does not admit you to another.
