About this property
Not one refuge but a string of them: since 1979 the Fish and Wildlife Service has been buying tracts along the Rio Grande's last 275 miles and stitching them into a corridor so wildlife can still move through the farmed and settled Valley — some 40,000 acres of riparian woodland and wetland, with around 520 bird species recorded. The piece this site covers is the La Casita unit in Starr County.
